I’m a bit sad that the ending was kind of rushed as I wished we got more closure from some plot points, like did the townspeople finally end up warming to father Gerald? How did Malthus mom get used to the idea that he gave up Sainthood? Did Hilda ever reunite with her parents? I wish we would’ve seen Ventura get caught for being a regular attendee at the hotel and that would’ve exposed his hypocrisy. I am so happy for Dindin!!! But I’m also really sad for Bonfim’s ending, he was such a good man and didn’t deserve that. After it finally coming to an end I can say that the way that I interpret Hilda’s decision to become a prostitute is that in a weird twisted way, the man who killed himself because of her rejection had such a deep impact on her that her giving her body away to men would mean that no one would feel rejected and unloved. I feel like that’s what she means when she says she needed to serve her penitence. She had to rebel against a life that was perfectly set up to ensure her happiness and yet she wasn’t happy at all. She had to experience the opposite of what people of the society she was born into deem as miserable.
Yeah, I also don't understand what kind of shady letter they found in his belongings, which tied him to some secret jobs or something...I thought at first that they just arrested him by accident, by mistake, but then they gave him some letters and he was just looking at those like he was really guilty of something...Maybe in the book it is explained better, I hope someone helps us here...
It was just blackmail. In the book they mention that they had suspicion he was friends with Roberto who was a “known” communist but they couldn’t arrest him in that suspicion so they made stuff up to see if they could get something out of him. In the book Hilda stays waiting and waiting while he’s arrested and she thinks he stood her up and there’s no resolution. So at least this ending is sooo much better.

I love all the flashbacks in the end when Malthus & Hilda meet 4 years later, and Madame Janete's prediction "What God marks - no one can erase" is a perfect fit for these two and their crazy journey to love and happiness. Wish I could see a flash forward, but in a way I also feel content in not seeing it too. Enjoyed sharing this experience and watching it with you all too xx

I waited over a week to watch the last few episodes and honestly it feels bittersweet. It's realistic but also forced. Him getting arrested felt real but also forced idk. [Spoilers] I find Malthus call to Hilda one of the brightest and the saddest moments of series. He has so sweet smile when Hilda is screaming from happiness. It feels bitter-sweet as he finally knows what he wants, but in the same time in a few hours everything will be ruined. It's heartbreaking to realize that in book that was the end of their relationships. Could anyone who read a book explain why they didn't end up together? Did he tried to look for Hilda?

This show got me reflecting about myself and how much I relate to Malthus. I grew up Catholic and the way Malthus talks to God being while being stressed out reminds me sm of my child self. I used to think I am better than everyone else just bc I was raised conservative. I was actually MISSING OUT in life. I am not religious now tho. I had a relationship with a non-catholic guy and I was scared of everyone in my family finding out so, we dated in secret. My family is super judgemental, just like the old ladies in the show, my aunties act like that. My family acts like it's wrong to date someone in general if you're not independent enough to carry your own weight yet, they feel like they have the right to judge you. It felt forbidden. He said it doesn't feel like he's in a relationship. Our rs was like 80% online, we hardly saw each other. He lives kinda far from me. I let him go, he deserves a REAL relationship. Im a coward and scared of taking a risk. I am currently trying my best to start my own independent life. I truly admire Hilda for giving 0 fucks and throwing her life away just to be free and be unapologetically herself.

Do we ever find out WHY she entered the brothel to begin with? Why did she do her "5 years of penance"? What was she atoning for? Was it about Dalton? She promised to tell Roberto and give him the answer, but did she? That was kind of the main mystery of the whole series, did I miss the reveal?!
i still think she entered the brother as a form of self-reclamation - like she felt trapped and unable to express herself (which is contestable considering how priveledged she was) but the whole atoning thing started after she got there i think?
One of if not the best show I have ever seen! This show has taught me so much from learning how to maintain my dignity to learning how to love! All characters are represented in a realistic way; drifting the viewer into their world, educating about the historical events and illustrating hypocrisy of people. There are many others as good as Hilda Furacão, I believe everyone who engaged to this show would fall in love with "A Casa das Sete Mulheres", for real (I believe the translated title would be "The House of Seven Women" ). It's a series which shows another piece of Brazilian History, with many moving love stories in the middle of a war in the late 1800s, and like in Hilda's story, there are many characters that are real, historical characters indeed like Giuseppe Garibaldi, played by Thiago Lacerda (Aramel), and if you think the guy looks fine here, you should see him in A Casa das Sete Mulheres, OH.MY.GOD! So, with my most sincere thanks I leave my humble suggestion to this AMAZING translator that maybe one day she could do such fine job with this series as well.

I’m sure it was one of the themes was how religion (by toxic people) punishes women more than men, those mothers hate on the prostitutes even though they just do it to survive but never have that same energy on the men that keep the work alive. I was introduced to Hilda and Malthus a couple months ago through tiktok edits, and I decided to give the show a watch because I'm a sucker for romantic stories. And I'm glad to say this show delivered on that. I was so invested in their romance and, surprisingly, the overall plot about the communist revolution. Frankly, I don't know very much about Brazil's history with communism, but it was very interesting to watch.
I was rooting for Hilda and Malthus from the first time they met, and I'm glad they found each other in the end. Call me corny, but I love a good fated lovers trope. I just wish we had seen a more vocal love confession from Malthus at some point, but I think his feelings are obvious just by watching him.
I really liked Hilda's inner circle of friends in the red light district, I especially liked Hilda's relationship with "man killer" Maria. The way Hilda never called her by that name and always encouraged her to embrace her feminine side was very kind. I was also a big fan of the scene when Hilda's ex was being kicked out of the hotel. During that scene, when they got outside, Maria immediately went into protect mode and started yelling at him without even knowing the situation. She's a real one. As a side note, I'm glad Leonor got her happy ending.

I wished we had gotten a kiss there, and also Malthus explaining why he wasn't at their meetup place. Also, some people didn't get their just desserts after everything that happened, but oh well :/ Overall, I enjoyed the series :D The angst between Hilda and Malthus was really good + their romance and relationship journey was top tier XD. no words could describe how much i love this series, it etched within me. i grown watching it, cause this got me feel like i'm also there because of how every characters have their own moments and they're relatable. i love the ending though it's kinda rush and there's so many things left unanswered. i just love malthus and hilda, even though there's no dialogue bro their eyes tell. the fortune teller prophecy about her lost shoe, once a man returned it to her, her life would be happy and that man going to marry her and have babies with, i feel like the ending is the real glimpse of that prophecy as roberto is the one who returned it to her and not malthus anw this didn't change the fact that malthus is her soulmate, they got married and have kids, that's what the fortune teller said "What God marks - no one can erase". I feel like they have so many babies knowing how man starving on hilda, he suffered 4 years enough 🤪
I swear, everyone got a pretty solid ending except the main leads lol. I think the 4 years apart was essential so Malthus could have some time to adjust to the real world before coming together. Otherwise they could have separated due to differences-- Divine timing. The ending of the main leads was so held back but at least the flashing back of madam Janette solidified that the prophesy was being fulfilled and that Malthus will indeed marry Hilda in the future. This was a journey and i will miss everyone on the show. Hilda was super lucky to have genuine friends who loved her truly and dearly--Maria, Thin waist, Leonor and even Roberto. I got to learn from Hilda to be confident and kind and learned from Malthus to be open to the Lord no matter what. Thank you so much for translating this masterpiece. You are an angel! Though dramatic as it sounds, but still holds true, you have touched lives more than you know it (irregardless of the severity). Love lots!
The way Hilda did everything for Malthus before she even met him. She believed and ACCEPTED the prophecy of the fortune teller, who told her that she will suffer a great deal till she finds happiness: The biggest challenge and suffering one can bring upon themselves is to go into prostitution. She did all this so she can find Malthus sooner (by completely escalating her suffering). She also did this so that she accept her long awaited happiness fully and wholeheartedly, when the time came. As we know Hilda never left business unfinished and everything she did was at a 110%. This was the penance she set for herself and she had to follow it, no matter what. Another thing is: Since episode 1 we can see she was very sensitive to people's suffering. By being around all the sad and tormented souls, she could absorb them, feel them, and thus becoming closer with God. (In that sense she was more Saint than the Saint himself!). In my opinion, she and Malthus had the exact same mission but started from two completely opposite points of reference, so that they could meet in the middle, which is what happened in the end. :)
This show was honestly so good, I'm going through kinda of a depressing moment in my life with the feeling of having nothing else to do, and this show was one of the only things I can turn to, and it truly helped me a lot with distracting me away from my environment but also giving me something greatly intriguing to focus on. I love Malthus and Hilda in this show so much and wish we had more scenes of them together, but I'm just mainly happy they still end up together (although a kiss or hug or some words would have been nice) but also I liked how the politics in this show impacted every character and connected them with others in one or another, and it taught be a bit about Brazil's history and situation during the 50's and 60's. Overall I will really miss this show a lot, I will probably rewatch again someday but for now I just wanna say its been a great time watching this show ya'll, that theme song will definitely be stuck in my head until the new year comes.

I’m a bit sad that the ending was kind of rushed as I wished we got more closure from some plot points, like did the townspeople finally end up warming to father Gerald? How did Malthus mom get used to the idea that he gave up Sainthood? Did Hilda ever reunite with her parents? I wish we would’ve seen Ventura get caught for being a regular attendee at the hotel and that would’ve exposed his hypocrisy. I am so happy for Dindin!!! But I’m also really sad for Bonfim’s ending, he was such a good man and didn’t deserve that. After it finally coming to an end I can say that the way that I interpret Hilda’s decision to become a prostitute is that in a weird twisted way, the man who killed himself because of her rejection had such a deep impact on her that her giving her body away to men would mean that no one would feel rejected and unloved. I feel like that’s what she means when she says she needed to serve her penitence. She had to rebel against a life that was perfectly set up to ensure her happiness and yet she wasn’t happy at all. She had to experience the opposite of what people of the society she was born into deem as miserable.

Yeah, I also don't understand what kind of shady letter they found in his belongings, which tied him to some secret jobs or something...I thought at first that they just arrested him by accident, by mistake, but then they gave him some letters and he was just looking at those like he was really guilty of something...Maybe in the book it is explained better, I hope someone helps us here...
DeleteIt was just blackmail. In the book they mention that they had suspicion he was friends with Roberto who was a “known” communist but they couldn’t arrest him in that suspicion so they made stuff up to see if they could get something out of him. In the book Hilda stays waiting and waiting while he’s arrested and she thinks he stood her up and there’s no resolution. So at least this ending is sooo much better.

DeleteThis show got me reflecting about myself and how much I relate to Malthus. I grew up Catholic and the way Malthus talks to God being while being stressed out reminds me sm of my child self. I used to think I am better than everyone else just bc I was raised conservative. I was actually MISSING OUT in life. I am not religious now tho. I had a relationship with a non-catholic guy and I was scared of everyone in my family finding out so, we dated in secret. My family is super judgemental, just like the old ladies in the show, my aunties act like that. My family acts like it's wrong to date someone in general if you're not independent enough to carry your own weight yet, they feel like they have the right to judge you. It felt forbidden. He said it doesn't feel like he's in a relationship. Our rs was like 80% online, we hardly saw each other. He lives kinda far from me. I let him go, he deserves a REAL relationship. Im a coward and scared of taking a risk. I am currently trying my best to start my own independent life. I truly admire Hilda for giving 0 fucks and throwing her life away just to be free and be unapologetically herself.

At least they found each other: and he found her shoe, again. It was clear from his expression the moment that he saw it that he somehow KNEW it was hers and that she was nearby. <3 This was the day the prophecy was referring to after all.
Do we ever find out WHY she entered the brothel to begin with? Why did she do her "5 years of penance"? What was she atoning for? Was it about Dalton? She promised to tell Roberto and give him the answer, but did she? That was kind of the main mystery of the whole series, did I miss the reveal?!

What an amazing show depicting there is no black and white. All characters are represented in a realistic way; drifting the viewer into their world, educating about the historical events and illustrating hypocrisy of people. Honestly, the bittersweet ending made me cry and feel empty, i don't know what i am going to do now that i finished it... This show will always be a part of me. The romance between Malthus and Hilda was such a slow burner but nonetheless what they had was so passionate and beautiful. To him resisting to full on embracing his love for her. ReplyDeleteOh, what a pity I just found this series posted days ago, I,'m feeling so refreshed to see people all over the world watching this show! There are many others as good as Hilda Furacão, I believe everyone who engaged to this show would fall in love with "A Casa das Sete Mulheres", for real (I believe the translated title would be "The House of Seven Women" ). It's a series which shows another piece of Brazilian History, with many moving love stories in the middle of a war in the late 1800s, and like in Hilda's story, there are many characters that are real, historical characters indeed like Giuseppe Garibaldi, played by Thiago Lacerda (Aramel), and if you think the guy looks fine here, you should see him in A Casa das Sete Mulheres, OH.MY.GOD!

ReplyDeleteI'm sat literally bawling my eyes out at the ending. I loved seeing them get a happy ending. I wasn't super interested in all the political stuff but I appreciated the context provided. Ugh, I'm still torn over the ending. Reminds me of the quote 'in this life and the next I'll find you'
Im sorry but that old ass priest pissed me off so much bc how is he going to say that Malthus is not a sinner when he is lusting for Hilda but then turns around and calls the other women in the show sinners for even having small impure thoughts likeee bye lmaoo and don't even get me started on that old raggedy grandma, she was soooo annoying like I literally skipped every time she popped up. Hilda a baddie tho purrr

I’m sure it was one of the themes was how religion (by toxic people) punishes women more than men, those mothers hate on the prostitutes even though they just do it to survive but never have that same energy on the men that keep the work alive. It makes me angry but it’s why I love this show
DeleteI was introduced to Hilda and Malthus a couple months ago through tiktok edits, and I decided to give the show a watch because I'm a sucker for romantic stories. And I'm glad to say this show delivered on that. I was so invested in their romance and, surprisingly, the overall plot about the communist revolution. Frankly, I don't know very much about Brazil's history with communism, but it was very interesting to watch.
ReplyDeleteI was rooting for Hilda and Malthus from the first time they met, and I'm glad they found each other in the end. Call me corny, but I love a good fated lovers trope. I just wish we had seen a more vocal love confession from Malthus at some point, but I think his feelings are obvious just by watching him.
I really liked Hilda's inner circle of friends in the red light district, I especially liked Hilda's relationship with "man killer" Maria. The way Hilda never called her by that name and always encouraged her to embrace her feminine side was very kind. I was also a big fan of the scene when Hilda's ex was being kicked out of the hotel. During that scene, when they got outside, Maria immediately went into protect mode and started yelling at him without even knowing the situation. She's a real one. As a side note, I'm glad Leonor got her happy ending.
I don't know how to express how deep my gratitude is to the translators. If it weren't for you, I would have never watched this show. Thank you so much.

ReplyDeleteI can't believe it's over!! I definitely wanted more Malthus and Hilda moments in general, but especially in the end!! I wished we had gotten a kiss there, and also Malthus explaining why he wasn't at their meetup place. Also, some people didn't get their just desserts after everything that happened, but oh well :/

The angst between Hilda and Malthus was really good + their romance and relationship journey was top tier XD. I definitely think they needed more focus and scenes together! I wish they had added a few more episodes in between full of M+H, but alas!

ReplyDeleteno words could describe how much i love this series, it etched within me. i grown watching it, cause this got me feel like i'm also there because of how every characters have their own moments and they're relatable. i love the ending though it's kinda rush and there's so many things left unanswered. i just love malthus and hilda, even though there's no dialogue bro their eyes tell. the fortune teller prophecy about her lost shoe, once a man returned it to her, her life would be happy and that man going to marry her and have babies with, i feel like the ending is the real glimpse of that prophecy as roberto is the one who returned it to her and not malthus anw this didn't change the fact that malthus is her soulmate, they got married and have kids, that's what the fortune teller said "What God marks - no one can erase". I feel like they have so many babies knowing how man starving on hilda, he suffered 4 years enough 🤪

ReplyDeleteI swear, everyone got a pretty solid ending except the main leads lol. I think the 4 years apart was essential so Malthus could have some time to adjust to the real world before coming together. Otherwise they could have separated due to differences-- Divine timing. The ending of the main leads was so held back but at least the flashing back of madam Janette solidified that the prophesy was being fulfilled and that Malthus will indeed marry Hilda in the future. This was a journey and i will miss everyone on the show. Hilda was super lucky to have genuine friends who loved her truly and dearly--Maria, Thin waist, Leonor and even Roberto. I got to learn from Hilda to be confident and kind and learned from Malthus to be open to the Lord no matter what.

DeleteThe way Hilda did everything for Malthus before she even met him. She believed and ACCEPTED the prophecy of the fortune teller, who told her that she will suffer a great deal till she finds happiness:
ReplyDeleteThe biggest challenge and suffering one can bring upon themselves is to go into prostitution. She did all this so she can find Malthus sooner (by completely escalating her suffering). She also did this so that she accept her long awaited happiness fully and wholeheartedly, when the time came. As we know Hilda never left business unfinished and everything she did was at a 110%. This was the penance she set for herself and she had to follow it, no matter what.
Another thing is: Since episode 1 we can see she was very sensitive to people's suffering. By being around all the sad and tormented souls, she could absorb them, feel them, and thus becoming closer with God. (In that sense she was more Saint than the Saint himself!).
In my opinion, she and Malthus had the exact same mission but started from two completely opposite points of reference, so that they could meet in the middle, which is what happened in the end. :)

ReplyDeleteThis show was honestly so good, I'm going through kinda of a depressing moment in my life with the feeling of having nothing else to do, and this show was one of the only things I can turn to, and it truly helped me a lot with distracting me away from my environment but also giving me something greatly intriguing to focus on. I love Malthus and Hilda in this show so much and wish we had more scenes of them together, but I'm just mainly happy they still end up together (although a kiss or hug or some words would have been nice) but also I liked how the politics in this show impacted every character and connected them with others in one or another, and it taught be a bit about Brazil's history and situation during the 50's and 60's. Overall I will really miss this show a lot, I will probably rewatch again someday but for now I just wanna say its been a great time watching this show ya'll, that theme song will definitely be stuck in my head until the new year comes.
