I love Hilda but I don’t understand her at all. She literally creates her own problems & is making old hags that she doesn’t even want fight over her for no reason. I just feel like it’s hard to support her when she’s a rich girl who put herself in these situations
^^I feel like a lot of what she does is to get Malthus' attention or coerce him into the relationship. I wish they'd given them more scenes earlier on in the story to show what they actually like about each other or how they enjoy their interactions, because right now it feels like two people who barely know each other are agonizing (Malthus) and getting angry/manipulative (Hilda), to be with someone, and for Hilda, it really seems like she likes him just because the cards said that he'd bring light and happiness in her life. I'm just like "dear Hilda, you don't need to put yourself in a precarious situation, wait for some guy you don't know to come save you, just to have a little bit of happiness in your life." 🤷
i'm starting to get annoyed by hilda. wtf are you doing with those old hags that we know you don't like. your literally making your own problems and then selfish enough to want the saint and expect him to drop everything for you! you really have nothing to give except your love for him that is only based on the premonition of that women. and she's not even thingking about malthus situation if he indeed choose her, like why so selfish?
I don't see a point in bringing up Saint, he has already rejected her, what do you want her to do? As for the 2 dudes fighting over her, idk but didn't she say she wants to try and get married either way? The way she's going about I isn't great but I wouldn't call it selfish
^^Anon above, I think it's fair to say Hilda is kind of/has been selfish from the very beginning of the show. In the beginning it might have been understandable because she no longer wanted to get married to Juca, but she didn't have to wait until the day of to let everyone know, especially when we'd already seen her waver and kind of accept what the fortune-teller told her about not finding happiness with him. But with Malthus, I feel like it's shown how she's especially self-centered because she is chasing after a man who is very committed to this role, and while she makes good points here and there that he's not allowed himself to be human, she really never attempts to understand why he struggles with his choices. She followed him all the way to his hometown, stuck around even when he told her no, slept with him and was jilted by him immediately after, AND STILL couldn't accept the fact that Malthus would have to come to the decision himself, in his own time for the love to be truly organic and accepted. Now, she has a new goal to make a spectacle in order to get his attention and make him jealous (we know this is the goal).
Sorry for the paragraph, but even for all the aspects of Hilda that are sweetish or considerate, we can't deny that she has flaws, and one of them is that she is really selfish, a lot of the time, and refuses to see it.
Adding onto what anon said we really can't deny the fact that she's being selfish. She's only up until now thought about her own happiness and tried to find the guy who will give her that. She calls Malthus selfish and prideful but I think it's pretty hypocritical of her to do so when she does things like this just to get back at Malthus.
nah tbh I love hilda and her “idgf” mindset. She has all the right to meet other man and enjoy her beauty and youth by seeing other options (even tho we know she loves Malthus. If it has a man everyone won’t say anything lol, the man in this show are horrible to woman, hilda is just a lost young woman that deep inside is heartbroken, a lot of man go after lots of woman when they get rejected and none one says anything, I will defend her always even tho they are both young she can’t wait forever so she is pushing him to see if Malthus will eventually love her or not
Obviously thats true but in the real world that is toxic, if someone says no then it means no. She has a hard time accepting Malthus’s decision and is full of anger and rage she swears Malthus is selfish but she is the same
Honestly, it's obvious that Hilda doesn't know how deep Malthus was manipulated and gaslighted. In her eyes he's judging everyone quickly. She couldn't accept his decision because she knows very well that Malthus loves her so hard but not agreeing to this.
Here to throw love at Comrade Zico (he can plow my field anytime), the new father of Santana dos Ferros (I want him to sactify me with his holy 'water'), and Jabuti (bestest man). Malthus is okay too 😘 but I have a thing for men with wavy hair and there's a picture of Rodrigo Santoro with just that and I'm in LOVE 💖
In what ways do you think people are misinterpreting her? I agree with some of the comments that she's trying to find a husband to fill her void, try to force Malthus to respond. I also think she could be doing to cause a ruckus and attention. She doesn't like those old men at all!
In my opinion, I think Hilda deeply enjoys having power over men in ways she would not ever have access to in her upper-class society. I don't think it's purely nefarious, I mean, if you were a woman in a strictly chaste society in 1961, I think the wet dream would be to show these powerful men that even in a position that is seen as the bottom of the social ladder, paradoxically, you hold more power over them then vice versa. You are an object to be owned in this society, but in her unique position as a sex worker with an upper-class background, she can bend the extent of these men's by making her self exclusive. Her love for Malthus may just be her desire to live unrestricted by the patriarchy in her society, and when he reminds her that he's a man and still occupies that role despite being divine, she lashes out like a child who's just found out that the stack of pancakes they've been enjoying is made of zucchini.
^ I really do like this series' commentary on gender roles, purity culture, misogyny, and power. It isn't a well rounded commentary, some of the choices it makes in story and character relations is kinda yikes, and I'd really like to see more criticism against certain choices by characters because ermmm the whole mc plotline is a MESS and Roberto's woman hopping is just skipped (for now).
