wow that scene with father nelson and hilda kinda pissed me off, I couldn’t tell if anything he said was from an actual place of concern for her as a priest because his intentions are clearly to shelter and “protect” Malthus in his own controlling way. But a part of me hoped that he did somewhat care for her as a person, until ofc he said “go marry a man who isn’t committed to God” ok… did it ever occur to u that this could be her way to find God!?!? Hes sooooo focused on not trying to get Malthus to be led astray that he potentially done the same with Hilda and ofc he doesn’t gaf bc there’s only one thing he cares about …

I agree. For a second I was hoping Father Nelson actually cared for Hilda - in his own way. But the more they talked, the more I started to get the feeling that if Hilda was dying on the church steps, he wouldn’t even open the door for her. Malthus on the other hand, would probably move heaven and earth for her at this point (look how he basically sucks his fingers, eating all that jam!! he’s basically obsessed with her and the only thing that helps is eating that stuff).
I hope Malthus stands up to Father Nelson about going to Rio and does the Mass for Hilda anyway. She needs more Sainto in her life lmaoo

well its not as if she has a choice right now, she makes income that way and its also a work shes reclaimed to feel a sense of independence when she had nothing, she practically has nothing to herself right now besides this profession. and its not as if its only hilda sabotaging herself, why isnt anybody talking about malthus being so swept up in his religious superstitions that he genuinely cant tell apart his own feelings and has an insane saviour complex, hes not a saint either (literally)
Father Nelson seems like he’s trying to use Malthus as a tool for his own wants. He said before that he wanted to keep him pure because his church will be affected by the loss of him. He’s also a very hateful person, which is not supposed to be a characteristic of priests. I feel like he’s the same as the other father, but in a different, more hidden way. Otherwise he would try to help Hilda instead of pushing her away to keep Malthus in his palm. That’s what he’s trying to accomplish with the trip to Rio de Janeiro. While Father Nelson should not bring Hilda to Christ through fear, he helped her change her opinion for the better through that conversation. However, he also shouldn't have pushed her away from doing mass with the church, but it sounded like Hilda simply plans to do mass without the saint as she walked away. [SPOILER AHEAD] I already know how Malthus and Hilda's relationship turn out by the end of the show, so I'm assuming Malthus wasn't fit to stay a saint. It's a shame but Hilda and Malthus were meant for each other, and I am sure he stayed a follower of God.
